Hangar Books
Hangar is a centre for creation, research and cultural and artistic exchange that focuses on the epistemologies of the South and has solidified itself as an essential, diverse and inclusive structure in the context of contemporary arts, not only in Portugal but also internationally. Hangar's plan of activities and artistic project is designed to guarantee the consolidation and stability of our activity over the four-year horizon (2023 -2026), continuing the work that Hangar has been doing since 2015.
Hangar's proposal promotes dialogue and artistic exchange between artists and different local, national and international agents, seeking to explore diversity and understanding between different cultures in an innovative and original way, while keeping in mind the local context in which Hangar is located.
Hangar's quadrennial programme has the general title and theme Notes from the Future, and aims to reflect on the challenges posed by a global pandemic, environmental urgencies and epistemological struggles.
The programme develops from geo-philosophical and decolonial thinking, working in a variety of modes ranging from critique to social practice, from relational aesthetics to environmental activism.
